Refund Policy

Thirty days, no questions asked. A US$39 purchase should never feel like a risk.

Last updated · Applies to BookFold Pro, a one-time US$39 purchase.

The short version

01 The policy

If you buy BookFold Pro and you are not happy with it, email us within 30 days of your purchase and we will refund you in full. You do not have to give a reason.

No forms, no “what went wrong?” interrogation, no requirement to prove you tried hard enough. If you ask inside 30 days, you get your US$39 back. We would rather refund someone cheerfully than have them feel stuck with a US$39 purchase they regret.

The 30 days run from the date of your payment, which is on your Stripe receipt.

02 You can try everything that matters before you pay

The free version of BookFold is not a crippled demo. Unlimited conversions, the full e-reader with chapters and themes, and the whole read-aloud feature are free. The only difference is a small “Made with BookFold” watermark.

So before you buy, you can confirm the things that actually vary between people: that your PDFs convert well enough, that your device has voices you like, and that the reader feels right. Pro adds watermark removal, the downloadable standalone offline reader, and highlight export — it does not change conversion quality or read-aloud.

We mention this not to talk you out of a refund, but because it is the reason we can afford to offer such a simple one.

03 How to ask for a refund

Email us:

support@bookfold.app

Please include:

Subject line “Refund” is enough. We aim to reply within two business days and to issue the refund at the same time we reply.

04 How long it takes

We issue the refund through Stripe, back to the card or payment method you paid with. We cannot send it anywhere else.

Stripe processes it immediately, but banks are slower: expect the money to appear within 5–10 business days, sometimes sooner. Some banks show it as a new credit; others make the original charge disappear from your statement. If nothing has arrived after 10 business days, email us and we will send you the Stripe refund confirmation to take to your bank.

05 What happens to your Pro licence

When we refund you, the Pro licence ends. The fair thing to do is to stop using the Pro features: turn Pro off in the app or clear BookFold’s site data, and delete any standalone reader files you downloaded while you were a Pro user.

Here we would rather be honest than pretend. BookFold’s Pro flag lives in your own browser, and a downloaded standalone reader is a plain file on your own disk that never contacts us. That means we mostly cannot enforce this — we are relying on you. It is a small independent product with a generous refund policy, and it works because almost everyone is decent about it.

Your converted books, reading positions and highlights are yours and stay on your device; a refund does not delete anything you made. If you buy Pro again later, it simply works again — nothing is held against you.

06 If you paid twice

Accidental double purchases — two payments for the same person, or a second purchase because Pro did not seem to unlock — are refunded in full, and this is not limited to 30 days. Just email us; we will refund the extra payment and make sure your Pro is working.

Before buying a second time because Pro is missing on a new device, try the restore option and enter the email you paid with. That is what it is there for, and it saves you the money and the wait.

07 After 30 days

After 30 days the no-questions-asked window has closed, but we are not going to hide behind that if something is genuinely wrong. If Pro stopped working, was never delivered, or the app broke in a way we cannot fix for you, email us and we will sort it out — usually by fixing the problem, and by refunding you if we cannot.

What we will not do is refund a purchase from a year ago simply because it is no longer being used. Beyond the guaranteed window it is a judgement call, made in good faith and, in practice, usually in your favour.

08 EU and UK: your 14-day right of withdrawal

If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, consumer law normally gives you 14 days to withdraw from a distance contract. For digital content delivered immediately, that right is usually lost once delivery begins with your express consent and acknowledgement — which is the standard trade-off for getting instant access.

This policy is deliberately more generous than the statutory minimum. We give you 30 days from purchase, no reason required, whether or not you have used Pro and whether or not you consented to immediate delivery. In other words: you do not need to work out whether your statutory withdrawal right survived. Just ask.

Nothing in this policy limits your statutory rights. If digital content is faulty, not as described, or not fit for purpose, you keep every remedy the law where you live gives you — including under the UK Consumer Rights Act 2015 and equivalent EU consumer legislation — and those rights are not limited to 30 days.

09 Chargebacks — please talk to us first

If something has gone wrong, please email before asking your bank to reverse the charge:

support@bookfold.app

An email gets you your money back in a couple of days. A chargeback typically takes weeks, is decided by people who cannot see the product, and costs us a dispute fee on top of the refunded amount — which is a real hit for a one-person business.

We will not fight a chargeback from someone who simply wanted a refund; we would just rather have paid you directly and faster. If you do not recognise a charge from us, email us and we will identify it and refund it. Genuine card fraud should of course go straight to your bank.

10 A few honest notes

11 Changes to this policy

We may update this policy, and the current version always lives here with the date at the top. The policy that applies to you is the one published on the day you bought. We will not shorten the window retroactively on a purchase that has already been made.
